Peacocks & Peahens
The peacock is India's national bird. These flashy members of the pheasant family are found in woodlands and forests throughout India and Sri Lanka. Peacocks have been introduced to many countries all over the world, and are kept at many stately homes in Britain. They have a very loud screeching call, so you might hear one even if you don't see it.
Peacocks are to be seen in the Llainfran grounds. Their elegant trains contain as many as 200 feathers with shiny green, gold and blue markings which look a bit like eyes.
In ancient India peacocks were associated with the all-seeing sun, and in Greek mythology these 'eyespots' were said to be the hundred eyes of the giant Argos. A really beautiful bird
